The Soul of a Painting – The Art of Brandon Khaw

What is soul? It is that ability of the artist to evoke with his work a self-recognition in the viewer. It is a work that “speaks” to us, touches us, and gives meaning to more than simple pigment on canvas.  It is with “soul” that Brandon Khaw paints……

You see it in the eyes of his portraits, the tilt of the head, the wistful smile, and the thoughts behind the eyes. You see it in his landscapes with the use of light and shadow. You feel the subtle nuance of his palette. There is always more in his work, not so much seen, but with what is implied. It is a dialogue between the viewer and the artist, it is “soul”.

The work you see today is not what you will see from Brandon tomorrow. His vision is maturing, his skill is perfecting, and each work brings him closer to that goal of sharing his intimate view of the world with you. Art is Brandon ’s personal journey of self discovery. His heartfelt desire is you share that journey with him and that you find a bit of yourself in his work. His hope is that you see the “soul” of the work and that it “speaks” to you with a voice that is both new but also softly familiar.
